The Avignon Wicker Handbag has untreated vegetable tanned leather accents and as such, may include unique variations in tone, and as well as small marks or scars. These variations and marks are natural features of the leather and should not be considered faults.
Vegetable tanning is an age-old tradition, requiring much more time and skill to develop than as with other types of tanning processes. Vegetable tanned leather has no synthetic covering and is sensitively finished by hand. Due to the natural tannins used, this type of leather will develop and change over time, darkening and creating its own unique patina. The aging process of this leather gradually enhances the personality of your bag and should not be avoided.
Your handbag’s vegetable tanned leather will require a little care: the leather has been coated with a gentle protection cream, however, for the first month of actual use, avoid taking it out in wet weather, to give the fibers sufficient time to become more flexible and therefore less likely to react to water.
After the first month of use, any spots of water or rain can be gently wiped away, rather than allowing droplets to sit on the surface. If you wish to clean your handbag, you can purchase a cream from various online leather care outlets. Always remember to use a neutral cream, rather than a particular colour (which will contain a dye), and always test on an inconspicuous area of the handbag first.
